Industrial Special Risks Insurance

Industrial Special Risks (ISR) insurance is one of the broadest commercial insurance policy’s available. It is designed to cover the widest range of accidental loss or damages typically faced by large single or multi-location businesses.

An ISR is a composite policy that covers all things property. This also includes the coverage of Business Interruption (profit, wages etc) as a result of any loss or damage to insured property. This can even include cover for costs of maintaining operations following direct damage to property, suppliers, customers and utilities. It is recommended to commercial clients with insured values greater than $3,000,000 (although this minimum does vary considerably between Insurers).

ISR insurance is an essential policy for any company asset portfolio that a holds high value physical assets such as property, equipment or machinery. It is commonly used across many industries, from Construction, Manufacturing, Mining etc. Typical composite covers included under an ISR are as follows;

• Loss and/or damage to buildings, plant and machinery, contents, stock, raw materials, unregistered vehicles and the property of directors and employees

The ISR policy is written backwards to other traditional policies. A normal insurance policy states what the Insured is covered for, an ISR policy states its exclusions, everything outside of these Exclusions is covered. This essentially means cover is not restricted to nominated risks. Instead, you are protected against all losses and damages except for exclusions listed in the policy.
